Goblin army spawn camping in Mediumcore. The must unfun experience in my entire life.
So came back to Terraria after a long absence to see all the new things and to have some fun.

Make an expert world on Mediumcore. Then the Goblin army appears after me progressing well for a while, kills me once so I drop my gear, then proveeds to spawn camp me.

I cant quit because all my gear will despawn. Staying is also pointless because they dont seem to leave at all and constantly cast bolts directly at ground level making it impossible to dodge. So Im basically forced to press respawn over and over for so far what feels like an hour being bored out of my mind. I dont even know if they leave or not.

How is this not fixed?

This is something that's possible, even on softcore. Granted, it's more devastating in Mediumcore, but it's still possible in softcore. About those bolts being impossible to dodge, just hit them. They break when any weapon or tool hits them.

For me it was actually impossible. I flattened out the area in front of my base and hadnt made a bed. 6-7 sorcerers and a few smaller goblins wandered around, evenyl split each side and firing Chaos Bolts in this really even spread out pattern.

I only just managed to win the Goblin army now, after nearky 50 countable deaths(individual gravestones) and nearly an hour plus of grinding and being unable to leave.

How do the devs not consdier this at all? Awful game design, I nearly abandoned and deleted my save game from that nonsense.

And to top it off, no loot at all and almost all my gold I was carrying is gone.

I've never had an instance when it actually was legitimately impossible to dodge enough of those bolts to survive long enough to get some distance between me and what had spawned.

Well I just slam keys, it seems to make the respawn screen go away faster since it seems to stick around for an incredible period of time.

Fair, I just wanted something new since I had already gotten to the Hallow tech stage like...3 years ago.

Damn, its 2020 and the devs still haven't fixed this. No more updates, so I'm stuck getting camped until the summoner leaves for 5 seconds and gives me a chance to get my stuff. This is absolutely the least fun thing that I've experienced in a game in a very long time.

Damn nice necro. Just build a wall or two and you will have 90% of the swarm stuck away from you. Even easier is putting a ditch on the other side of the wall and drop a lava bucket or two on it. Then the goblin army will farm itself. They are reasonable easy and only dangerous when swarmed. Being fightable in silver or gold rated armour against entire swarms but you could fight them naked with a wall or two. They totally ignore you underground so if you under prepared you can farm as well.
Any fast weapon can attack and destroy the spell orbs at the same time.

Been there before.
Depending on area: Run / dig down / make makeshift bunker , smash occasional bolts coming your way with your copper pickaxe.

Get your gear safely that way then dig further or run away untill you are out of event's range.

Reequip your gear and go murder some goblins.

And for future prepare your base accordingly so you dont get swarmed so easily or dont go above 180 hp untill you are ready.

Choose Mediumcore or Expert , experience something based on the options you choose, and then want the devs to make it easier?

That doesn't make sense to me!

I'd suggest you leave your items there for a bit. Run away. Rebuild with better armor or weapons. Return and defeat them.

That is a strategy you may need to employ when playing games where you lose your items.

I even had to do it in Everquest when I couldn't find my corpse! Just count it as a loss, take the loss to the items, and rebuild.

Goblin army sucks.
at least their drops (harpoon, spiky balls) are worth it...

Mediumcore is definitely a no go for most people from my experience. I wouldn't be surprised if more people preferred hardcore over mediumcore because it's just tedious as hell to get your stuff back. If you die deep in the caves, you've gotta go back with nothing, and that would be miserable. Dying in hell is a decent chance of losing some items, and that would just piss people off a lot.

As for expert, it's really not that bad. Classic difficulty is way too easy IMO, and this is coming from someone who use to be so lazy that I face tanked every boss and barely dodged anything. Expert is definitely worth the challenge to me, since it makes certain bosses like the destroyer more risky to fight. Destroyer can melt half of your HP bar with his head attack, whereas there is no massive head multiplier in classic mode (hence why I could face tank him and win).
