Demon altars and skeletron
Hi. I am a bit new to terraria but I am playing quite a lot recently. I have two doubts: One is about demon altars and another is about skeletron.

1. I read that if I destroy Demon altars, new type of ores will spawn in my world. But I am not in hardmode (never seen the ¿underworld? Don't remember.

Anyway, I have this doubt: Not being in the hardmode, should I break the demon altars? Will I get something?

2. And my second problem. This is about Skeletron. I fought him but I was defeated (slime rain started and I get a bit confused), when I died he dissapeared. But the old man didn't come back. Will I be able to fight him again or I have lost the opportunity to get into the dungeon? I can't get that doll to summon him because I think I need to go into the dungeon first...

I am sorry, this game is great but when you are just starting is a bit strange, confusing. Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Breaking altars spawns a single block of Crimson/Corruption ANYWHERE in your world. It would be faster than fishing, but if you decide to fish instead, it's a much safer (but longer) bet. Only break altars if you don't want to do fishing for crates, otherwise you'll see much more Crimson/Corruption in your world. Breaking altars gives you the newer ores, though crates will get you the new bars and ores.

2. I believe the Old Man comes back after a day. Just give it some time and he'll re-appear for ya. Once you beat Skeletron, there's a Voodoo Doll, much like the Guide, that kills your Clothier to spawn him, so no doll is needed. Just need to wait it out and he'll come back.

Hope that helped ya, good luck!

The old man just reappeared, thank you! :D

The new ores will appear no matter if I play on hardmode or not? Breaking altars accelerate the corruption? Right now my corrupted areas didn't move a bit... Or it happens only after beating the flesh wall? (I think that was the name...)

Good luck beating him up! Dungeon's my favorite place in the whole game (especially that music underground), so have fun in there once you do.

If you happen to fish for crates, you can get the new ores and bars from crates (golden, iron, or wooden tend to be easiest to get) once Hardmode kicks in. If you unbox those crates before hardmode, they will not appear. If you break altars, it just makes a single block ANYWHERE in the world corrupt, meaning it could spread to areas you don't want it in.

Once the Wall of Flesh is dead, it accelerates the spread of Corruption while adding a new biome (Hallow) to spread, too. Where you're at, Corruption can spread, but very, very, very, very slowly. I believe it can also spread only to grass/dirt, but once in hardmode, it can spread to stone and other things.

Breaking altars doesn't accelerate it, but just adds more, I'd say. It's quicker than fishing to get the ores, but dangerous in the sense you will die a lot in early hardmode (ESPECIALLY underground). Fishing is slower but safer (as you'll be more protected, especially when near home with a pond), and there'll be much less Corruption. :UT2004flak:

Thanks a lot ^^, just to be sure: This new ores and bars ONLY appear in Hardmode, right? So if I go fishing crates, I will got the new ores just ONCE I am playing in hardmode. If I open them before that, I won't get any new ores or bars, right?

By the way, Skeletron destroyed me far more easily than I thought he would. I wear the shadow armor and use a katana (power 18) and boomerang (power 15) and that strange water book (19 I think), and I have 300 life. And still, he destroyed me easily T.T

The water book is called the water bolt and did you try building an arena?

Yep, hardmode only ores/bars. Just stockpile up crates (takes hundreds of them, surprisingly) and open them during hardmode. If you open up crates before the Wall of Flesh dies, then yes you will not get them. Once you tear the Wall apart and see the message about 'spirits of dark/light being released' (start of hardmode), then you can open up the crates and watch yourself explode into loot, with the ores/bars included.

What class are ya? Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Summoner, any of those I can provide tips with (since I've beaten Skeletron with all classes). I'll also screenshot a picture of my current arena in a world of mine, if you'd like.

Just in case, anyway. I didn't start using them until after 100 hours or so, but who knows. :P

I thought breaking altars spawned hardmode ores (e.g. adamantium, orichalcum)? You can't break them pre-hardmode anyway, it just hurts you.

This is as far as I remember, though.

Mhm, breaking them in hardmode grants the ores but spawns in another Crimson/Corruption block anywhere.

I remember dying when I tried to break an altar pre-hardmode, so embarassing but I laughed at it.

Yes, I don't know anything about classes... I just... shake my sword and... pretty much anything I find that can be shaked XD. How can I get access to any class? I just got a... I don't know, it looks like a lightsaber XD, and a laser pistol. I made them with meteorite.

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deeper than people told me O.O

P.D. : I am trying to get some crates but right now my fishing rod is broken or something, it doesn't move at all...

Classes are kinda simple to get into. All it pretty much means is to stick with a certain weapon type, whilest getting accessories / armor / weapons to fit the class. Example, Ranger uses things like guns, bows, and explosives (later on). Anything that says '(number) ranged damage' fits Ranger, most cases guns and bows being it. Anything with 'magic damage', 'melee damage', or 'summon damage' goes to Sorcerer, Warrior, and Summoner respectively. You can switch from class to class very quick too. It's basically just getting weapons, armor, and accessories to make your class do more damage. You CAN be a mix of all classes, but you won't do so much damage as if you'd stick with one. It's best to stick with one or two at most.

Yes, it is a very deep game. I still find new things to learn, even AFTER beating the game. It's that crazy (and fun).

Make sure you have some bait (like worms) in order to fish, your rod (of course :P ), and Fishing/Sonar/Crate potions (optional, don't have to but it makes it faster). May take a while for something to catch but it's just throwing it in water and waiting for the line/bob to shake.

Then I am pretty much nothing... My items are sword, range and magic (I am trying to realise what is better to me) and about other items, I use useful items to travel: Claws, spike shoes, water-walking boots, extendo grip and something like a ring that gives me +5 defense... I usually change my helmet to the miner helmet, because the light is far better when I am mining. I just use the shadow helmet to complet my armor when I am fighting.

So far I need to figure how to enchant weapons because my old katana had some nice spells that my lightsaber is lacking...

Reforge, you mean? I don't know if there's any enchanting to be had but for sure there is reforging done by the Goblin. Anyway, I'll get a screenshot going of an arena. Basic idea for it: lots of platforms, heart lanterns, campfires, and if you're a Sorcerer/Summoner, Star in a Bottle. Also, I'd use Molten Armor (from Hellstone) and other accessories to help. Regeneration Band, Spectre Boots, Shield of Cthulu, those should help out so much.

I didn't know anything you are talking about T.T, in fact, now I feel even more lost... All those things sound really hard to get. I killed Cthulu but he didn't drop any shield.

I don't know what is an "arena" either.

And I didn't know anything about "reforging" or any goblin... come on T.T
