I mean OP has made really dumb threads before (like the one where they were malding about calamity Hardmode progression being different despite having an option to revert it back to vanilla)

So It would not surprise me if they were that stupid to not know why this game is popular.

EDIT: what happened to the posts before mine? ah whatever
EDIT2: Ok that was really mean of me, its probably they dont know english very well.

"Its just a 2D game".

Your point? The game is popular because it's a good game, pretty simple.

The game is popular because the game design appeals to people.

That's not the same as saying it is the best game for everyone, but luckily we're liviing in a world with an abundance of games so you are sure to find a game that suits you eventually.

I think part of the reason it's so popular is its progressive system. I don't know if other people have experienced this but for some reason when I first started playing, I got really, really addicted to its progressing. There are about 60 armor sets that you have to go through. I literally could not stop playing until I beat the moon lord.

Re-Logic knows how to make a proper difficulty system in a video game. Terraria's game loop, progression, and concepts of difficulty to make a more "hardcore" experience have been massive inspirations for modern games.

i guess its 2 things that made it at least for beginners interresting:

Frist one is everything you do is basically worthy you beat a boss get a new NPC and the new NPC sells stuff that gives you more options to shape the world or helps you in the next bossfight or gives you new options how to fight a boss.

and the second one is you always find seomething new after you beat a boss new ores new events new enemies with new equipment or events get new enemies and new loot and you can merge the most of your found stuff into something more usefull.

and for old players i guess its the modding community mode like calamity mod that brings new bosses new loot.

thats at least i think the reason for the popolarity.

I do like this post for allowing us to point out that people that only play games for graphics are simpletons. People enjoy what they enjoy, but 2D graphics don't detract anything from a game.

It's like people that prefer live action over animation. You can do so much more with animation. It's perfect for anything not based in reality. Making epic things live action(or 3D or VR) is going to put a low ceiling on how epic it can look, not to mention giving it a shorter lifespan cause of how dated the limited effects will look.

It's popular because it's a very well made game with tons of content. It also costs $10 which is a criminally low price for something you can play for 100s of hours.

The game also got a large-ish update a recently which is the reason for the current population spike.

It's popular because the devs actually care about the game and making a good game. The market team still hasn't been given the wheels of development, if that happens, it will derail like all the others. Doubt the original devs will do so, after 10 years making a great game.
