Does battle potion affect events or not??
Can anyone verify the accuracy of this comment?

Battle Potions (and Water Candles) can not be used to increase the spawn rates of events like the Pumpkin and Frost Moon (seemingly except for the Blood Moon). Event spawn rates override the Battle Potion's effect.

It seems that invasions overwrite the normal spawn rates, so the biome etc doesn't matter. Moreover it also overwrites spawn rate changes from Battle Potions and Water Candles.

I see people in the forums still suggesting to use them, and I can't tell either way...

You could always run a test to see for yourself. Goblin Invasions are probably the weakest one to try it with. Grab a water candle and some battle potions, and summon the invasion without activating either. Time how long it takes to defeat, and make note of how much loot you gain from it. Then place the water candles and drink a potion, and summon another invasion. If they do affect it, then there'd be more enemies, taking longer to defeat, with more loot once they're all defeated.

The problem with that is that Pirate and Goblin Invasions will always spawn the same number of enemies, and so give similar amounts of loot. You would have to test it out with one of the two Event Moons.

As far as I'm aware, enemies in the two moons spawn as quickly as you can kill them.

Perhaps, but would battle potion affect the enemy limit? And if not, why do many people recommend using one?

It may very well be a case of "Well, it couldn't hurt". Materials fall like rain, once you get things set up, so it's not uncommon to have a supply of Water Candles and Battle Potions on hand for no reason at all.

Battle potions require Rotten Chunks, which are (generally) more important for boss summons, and Deathweed, which is more important for Rage Potion, Thorns Potion, and Wrath Potion. If it has no effect, I'd rather save my materials and time.
