True, but because that gives any random monster access to your house as well it isn't generally a desirable way to handle it.
That being said, I can't say i've had any trouble opening doors at all. They won't open in the direction of any object placed right up against them but other than that, it's a pretty simple system.

There are pressure plates which only can be triggered by players (blue/brown/grey/lihzahrd)

Active blocks as doors?!?!?!?!?!? Tell me more of this!!!!
Not sure if srs, but:
You can use to make an upside down T formation of wire that's connected to 3 active blocks (it can be an unlimited number, but 3 is the height of a door) and 2 brown pressure plates (so only you can activate them) on either side. This way the door opens when you hit the first one and closes when you hit the second one.
The two things I generally do are either set up a switch that ONLY closes all doors at once, or else make it so the only way out of the housing complex is via rope or trapdoor, which npcs (and mobs) can't possibly use.
