Well in that case, hoverboard beats pretty much everything when you use it right. I never cared much for that mechanic though so I usually skipped hoverboard. I only gave it any significant use in my most recent playthrough because it helped make up for not using speed boots in a summoner build.
The fishron wings do pretty nicely, though, and come with the superior uppward motion and flight time and distance. But they still don't shoot you upward as fast as the jetpack nor move you horizontally like the hoverboard.
it's because of the horizontal movement bonus that I still keep my old hoverboard with me, in case I find ymself on a strange new world and needing to explore the surface ASAP.

I prefer wings over hovering. I find holding down the S and X (my jump key) down at the same time awkward.
Well that's the second years old thread I had subscribed to that has been necroed in the past week. At least the last one was to ask a real question...
I've never used nor seen the vortex booster used but considering looking it up on the wiki shows a stat line better in almost every way with a x2 duration boost for hovering, I don't think this is a question that needs to be asked.
