Destroyer Arena

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew how high the destroyer is able to go off the ground before burrowing back down. I'm trying to make an arena so that he can't hit me, or almost can't. The probes will still hit me, but they're easy to deal with.

Space. No joke, you go as high as you can, to the top of the whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ map, and the Destroyer will reach ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ space to get a chance to kill you.

Can't really give an exact number, though.

The Destroyer treats off-screen area like solid block, so he can get to you no matter how high you build. To fight the Destroyer, I usually build a 7x7 box, put up a heart lantern, and fight him from within the box. A good auto-attack weapon, like a phasesaber or crystal storm helps alot.

My arena is made up of 2 platforms each 100 blocks long. The lower platform is just high enough to barely see the ground below and the upper platform is at least 10 blocks higher. Campfire and heart lanterns at each end.

It's not high enough that the destroyer can't reach me but I start the fight in the lower platform. When the destroyer arcs over me, I grapple up to the upper platform then drop down to his side and hit him with spear.

If probes get too many, I switch to sword and fly straight up then kill the probes as I fall back down and pick up the hearts. Rinse and repeat until destroyer is dead.

You can also change the tactic a bit if using ranged attack. When he arcs over you in the lower platform, go up the upper platform and hit him from above. When he arcs over you in the upper platform, go down the lower platform and hit him from below.

edit: A nimbus rod is also very effective. If you're lucky enough to find one (I wasn't the first few times I killed him), use it and stand under it so probes coming up from below gets killed and it continues to damage the destroyer.
