Lost my diamond staff
Hi, is there any way to recover items that you drop or lose. My phone rang and I needed to take the call. I was using my diamond staff and didn't return it to the hot bar. I was in a chasm in the Corruption, and exited the game. When I logged back in, my staff was gone and when I returned to where I dropped it, nothing there.

Chauk it up to learn and move on?

Any way to recover it?

I don't think there is. I'm pretty sure any dropped items will stay where they are until you either pick them up or leave the game. If you leave the game all dropped items will disappear.

Probably not, if you can't find it at the place you dropped it.

A diamond staff shouldn't be hard to replace though, so don't worry, you will get other good stuff quickly.

Afraid not.

Thankfully, you should be able to get a new magic weapon that handles pretty decently... assuming you've fought the eye and brain of cthulu...

Since you left the world... it's not going to be there anymore...

You will have to replace it, but you can do that by collecting silt or slush and hoping for 10 diamonds, or going to get 10 diamonds.

On the other hand, as you are exploring and advancing your char, you will probably end up replacing it anyway, so that at least, you can make it later for your collection but it shouldn't be anything that holds you up.

I lost a few weapons when I was pressing T to talk in multiplayer. Yep....that's right. I kept throwing it out of my inventory, and with some games where there were many people all around, someone has that weapon now. However, I didn't learn my lesson and upon making a new weapon, though not as good -- I did it again. I haven't been back to multiplayer for at least 1 week now. (and in case anyone was curious, I kept pressing T to talk because I had just been playing Minecraft)

I sometimes press T because of Killing Floor.

1. You don't need to quit the game to take a phone call. It pauses automatically when the window is minimized, or another one is opened over it. Unless you're in multiplayer, of course. But you really shouldn't be playing in multiplayer if you're expecting a phone call.

2. Why would you even want to take a weapon out of your hotbar to use it? Isn't much simpler just to select it and then fire it directly from the hotbar? The only reason anyone would want to hold a weapon "in-hand" and use it that way, would be if their hotbar was full and the weapon would be somewhere else in their inventory.

3. As long as you don't log out of a world, dropped items will stay there, if there aren't too many of them. As soon as you close the world, though, they are lost for good.

Thanks to everyone. Consistent answers obviously.

I'm new to the game and have not really understood the working of the hotbar until chakat Torchfire explained it in his second point. I have been treating the hotbar the same as the other slots in the inventory and taking it out and holding it 'in hand'. Including the diamond staff.

I have been able to replace it for now with a ruby staff.

So, thanks again for your replies and help especially in relation to the hotbar.

make a softcore character. losing all your items in a game like this is cheap game design. seriously.in minecraft it was okay because most of that ♥♥♥♥ was very easily replaceable or salvageable, but here you lose LOADS of stuff and progress.
Tender Loins 2014년 8월 3일 오후 5시 04분
after you leave a world anything you left sitting on the ground, for example dropping your diamond staff and not picking it up, is deleted. so either make a new one or cheat it in.

And yes make softcore character like that guy said^

if i ever do something dumb like that in my games, i take my rich better charcters and take stuff from their world to replace it in that one. its much easier considering your better character will ahve better equipment making it easier to get the stuff.

Hi; I don't know about game design, cheap or otherwise, and I have never played minecraft, but I was surprised that I couldn't go tetreive my diamond staff. I accept thar using the hotbar is something I should have known, but at the same time why not let the player go back and get his stuff. It won't always be easy...I was in the middle of a chasm at the time

So, here I go again. Pardon my newbie ignorance. Not sure what a softcore character is. I thought by default that I was in softcore mode, not mediumcore or hardcore. Do you mean that you create another world sort of as a backup and that you can save your stuff that way and your character remains the same essentially? I have only created the one world.
Drag 2014년 8월 3일 오후 6시 17분
World and character are totally separate, which makes Terraria something unique. If you go and make a totally new world after getting some really nice stuff on your character... you can take that nice stuff into the fresh world, which will be at the exact same place in progression as when you were first dropped with nothing but near useless copper junk.

Mediumcore and hardcore have absolutely no impact on gameplay. They only cause you to be punished harder for dying. The game will be just as hard on hardcore as it is on softcore. If you die though, it's permanent.

But yeah, use the hotbar... it's much better than hand using your stuff.

Oh, and if you have a grapple, the shortcut key for using it is e by default. You don't even have to have the grapple in your hotbar nor selected to use it!
