Bridges for WoF are a crutch.
All you need is a clear path (knock down a few walls in your way) and a Water Walking potion. You don't even have to craft them, since you should find plenty of them in chests by the time you get that far. It just seems like a noob move. Sure it might be marginally safer but it's a hassle. Honestly most bosses don't even remotely need any kind of arena, just a large flat area (which often is naturally occurring, especially near spawn)

I would agree with you if this was just for normal mode, But in expert mode bosses can be almost impossible without and arena to fight them in, Like waf if you don't make a bridge you most likely are going to get stuck and killed because he gets like 5x faster. And plantaria fighting him without an arena is almost impossible.
I'm talking about Softcore pre-hardmode Normal. That said, even with expert mode, I don't see how a bridge is really necessary when you have water walking potions. Just clear out some of the towers.

Repeat process like twenty times.

Constantly force character to make risky terrain jumps and lose focus, while saving no significant amount of effort and having no real benefit.

In expert mode you need to be on a flat surface. Getting caught on a block or slowing down for even a single frame will get you killed because the wall of flesh ends up moving even faster than the player with hermes boots towards the end of the fight, so having to jump up and over terrain in expert mode WoF would make the fight near impossible.

I'll check my expert world, but I'm pretty sure I didn't need to do that.

Either pick a flatter section of terrain, or use grapple. It's not that hard. I've never made a bridge even once in Normal mode. Also, why are you landing IN the pits instead of at the top? You can just jump from one peak to the next.

there actually is another advantage to making a land bridge for WoF than just a flat area, the eyes and head try to stay between the top layer of the underworld and the bottom layer. if you create a land bridge the WoF thinks its the bottom of the world and will stay between that and the top of the underworld. (though, since there is space in between the landbridge and the bottom of the underworld, it may go underneath the landbridge.) this gives you a smaller area for you to target his eyes/mouth.

he's such a big target it doesnt really matter.

It's so you don't get stuck while running away from him.

Also, if made of blocks and not platforms, it blocks the bottom eyes lasers.

He is big, but his body is immune to attack, making his eyes and mouth targets. also, being able to see where they are at all times is a huge advantage, as you can always spot the targets.

A bridge normally is necessary in some cases, being that if you run out of water walking potions but are eager to fight the WoF. I mean, you could really just take precautions. It really doesn't hurt. Even though it seems like a noob move, its a pro move.

I definiteley agree with this, especially if you are doing a playthrough that uses low-tier armor, (ex: mage, summoner, etc.) a bridge can really help.

It's not really a big deal either way. Not like building a bridge is much effort or takes much time anyway.
