The first version of Minecraft that was in Alpha was June 30th, 2010. :)
It was worked on snce mid 2009.
You can fnd an early video of Notch testing the world gen in a cave mode type system, with nothing but bedrock. :)
Beleive me, if you were around back then, on the Mnecraft forums, you'd know about the bizarre fightiing people got into about Terrara.
But when Terraria first came out, Ugh, the Minecraft forums were alive with the sounds of whining.
"This is 2-D minecraft!" ETC.
Believe me, it was Hell in those days.
"Look at these graphics! It's amazing."
And then the creators of Terraria get so rich they buy EA and ACtivision out. :P
Why bother arguing?
Ask the Terraria community, they say Terraria is better than Minecraft
Ask the Minecraft community, they sat Minecraft is better than Terraria
Seriously, just stop anything related to Minecraft & Terraria or other sandbox/indie games. It will result in a flamewar that will last for long. They're both unique in their own ways
Let me start with Minecraft as we are currently in the Terraria community,Minecraft is a 3D openworld game where you build, chop trees, basic stuff.Although Survival is probably not the best thing ever,Creative gives endless possibilities such as command blocks. With command blocks, you can create almost anything possible in the game, from animated to redstone,to a..statue with working arms?Minecraft is also a game with endless mods, creating almost anything
Terraria on the other hand is a 2D platformer game like Mario
Because Mario is everything
Terraria has more vanilla items than Minecraft. The goal of the game is to fight bosses, mainly focusing on bosses and building. With the addition of buff potions, bosses became more intense and more unique.
But let's not talk about buffs, lets talk about the core of Terraria itself.Terraria doesn't have the command blocks and fancy redstone that Minecraft has to the point we have to exploit the game's mechanic to do things such as hoiks and manipulating enemy AI.Personally,I don't care about this exploting, rather the results. The best thing that can be done in Terraria is a calculator.Yes,a calculator, impressive right?
Minecraft has more redstone to create more than a calculator, which makes Minecraft more for the "nerdy" things than Terraria
As for vanilla play,Terraria has over 800 items (and that is just in one update!) to ? enemies, with over 20 bosses and expert mode.Terraria has more items than Minecraft and can be used to build more things. However, since Terraria is a 2D game,it lacks the 3D definition of Minecraft which can be used to build amazing builds. Not to mention the shaders mod (which I can't install for private reasons) that makes everythinf look fantastic
Terraria also has less adventure maps and mods than Minecraft by a milestone.
tl:dr Terraria is good for vanilla like survival or expert mode and Minecraft is good for adventure maps and redstone
Regardless, both are good in their own ways
1. The only similarities between the two are pixel artwork and the presence of a building and crafting system. Even then the building and crafting is only a relatively minor part of Terraria. Terraria isn't about building, it's (loosely) a Metroidvania where combat is the main focus. Meanwhile Minecraft has no real combat to speak of.
2. That they somehow manage to throw this complaint at Terraria instead of Starbound. Starbound has a much larger emphasis on building. The large selection of blocks and objects to place, quality of life tools like a ranged block placer and a machine that can clone objects, so on. At least at face value it also has a larger emphasis on exploration, and is less combat orientated than Terraria. Even though it's nothing like Minecraft it's still far more similar to it than Terraria is. So why people instead choose to single out Terraria is beyond me. Then again most "ripoff" complaints don't typically have actual logic behind them in the first place.
It's possible to belong to multiple communties and to own multiple games. I've spent hundreds of hours in both, and I can say without bias that Terraria is way better. At least, to me.
It sucks to be blunt. The only thing it's good for is giving people a sense of accomplishment with their builds (i.e. "your giant castle isn't impressive because you cheated and used creative to make it, nevermind how good it looks!!!"). There's definitely no survival to it, no serious threats to prepare yourself against (excluding the two optional bosses in the game). Building serves no point in that regard, digging a hole in the dirt is just effective at saving yourself from mobs as a giant stone castle is.
What's amusing is Minecraft was a "ripoff" of sandbox building games that already existed. It just got lucky with its marketing and time of release.
And nah. I was exposed to MC first. Still stand by everything I said.
I may or may not depending on the passion I have for the product.
If the game is the fulfillment of a personal vision, a means of self expression, I wouldn't sell it for anything just to let some other company twist it.
If it's just something I put a little heart into but for the most part was just making for profit, then yeah I'd sell it in an instant.
Does it have to be respected by any sane person? Yes.
Do you have to flame people for it? No.
The minecraft fanboy didn't respect your opinion and decided to flame you for not liking minecraft. It's his fault and not yours actually.
Opinions are like asses, everyone stinks.
10/10 as usual
Like saying Pong is a Tetris ripoff.
Like saying Boring Man is a Starbound ripoff.
Okay that last one is a bit extreme but whatever.
