Then go for Menacing or Lucky on your trinkets, having a high critical chance is really helpful.
While for melee weapons themselves, always aim for Legendary.
What's the Golden Ratio?
I see.
On Master or Master FTW go Menacing.
Cause Warding won't help you that much against hardmode bosses and enemies that hit harder than a drunken uncle on a family gathering.
So it's best to just end the fight faster with more damagè.
I beat Moonlord with 110++ defense prebuff. Add ironskin and endurance potions + defensive beetle set + some regenerations and you can just laugh at his face as long as you have asphalt arena. Use flairon on top of all that and you don't even need to aim. Full warding melee + charm of myths + master ninja gear + brain of confusion + some mobilities is the ultimate noob friendly build. The moment you have low hp, your potion will always be available unless you go full afk.
You could go maximum damage as melee, but you could also go for a full tank build with melee weapons, both are perfectly viable depending on your playstyle.
With the correct build and "arena" you can easily facetank bosses (outside of EoL(Day) ofc) even in legendary, while still dealing enough damage so limited time for some bosses isn't a problem.
