Recognizing and avoiding Exploding/Trapped Chests

The title says it all. I just got blown up like 2 minutes ago by a golden chest in the underground of jungle biome. How does one recognize them and avoid getting blown?

Gotcha, I do happen to have those but only like 3-4 at best.
Any other alternatives?

look around the chest or use items that let you see the wire, around the chest there will be explosives and boulders, holding an item that lets you see wires lets you see the wires connected to the chest and cut them, which disables the trap

If you have a wrench for laying wires, equip it and you can see if a chest is wired to anything.

sure, be careful of those jungle traps, they are a CALAMITY all their own, and this isn't even Terraria 2 yet (let's hope RE-LOGIC doesn't make our Life any harder when THAT point comes though huh? )

Terraria 2? You are already far behind in the news. Wait until you see v1.4.4 secret seed and his (not exagerated) number of traps (which i'm assuming more of those "exploding chests".

Oh and in case you missed the message from the devs about those : “You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could open the chest that you didn't stop to think if you should.” In other words, don't rush to any loot you see. Pay attention to your surroundings. See if you see an abnormal number of boulders, dart traps and explosives around the chest. using dangersense potion or holding any item linked to wires (like a grey pressure plate), or having the grand design in your inventory also help a lot.

I'm making a texture pack that makes trap chests glow red. Should be up by today.
