Terraria on Steam Deck - absolute nightmare!

I've played Terraria for thousands of hours ... on PS4, PC, Mobile and PS Vita. So I'm not a stranger playing this awesome game on a hand-held device.
So today, when my Steam Deck finally arrived, I made sure to install Terraria as the very first game... BUT ... MY God! default controls and interactions ... absolute nightmare, pretty much unplayable! I know I'll make it work eventually. But somehow I was expecting something better from Steam Deck and Terraria devs.

Ummm... what? How can the controls be unplayable on a Steam Deck, when it can be used as any other normal controller?

Sounds to me you don't know how to use the Steam Deck properly, played Terraria on it myself and it plays exactly like it does on a PC with a controller. Go figure it out instead of blaming the game.

It is truly a damned nightmare on controller or steam deck. I still can't figure out how to drop a freaking item on steam deck.

I never played terraria on any on system before so I tried it for my first time on steam deck and I also found it unplayable. I'll save terraria for my PC. Absolutely could not manage the UI on deck at all I pushed all the buttons everywhere. Only barely managed to craft a worktable that I then couldn't use after being placed

I totally agree. The switch version is far more intuitive. You would think that relogic would have put at least a little effort into deck controller support. For example it doesn’t detect back buttons or trackpads as part of the controller so you need to have them mimic mouse and keyboard stuff so then you end up with a weird mix of keyboard and controller and it doesn’t work well. Also on consoles terraria has far more control customization.

Just chiming in I also find the steam deck control scheme absolutely terrible which is a shame since this seems like a great game for the deck.
