Plus if you have lots of tunnels with mud as the walls and floors it will increase your chances of Plant Bulbs and LifeFruit.
To answer OP: If you are playing Journey Mode, just research the raw luminite or the luminite bars. If not, get ready to fight the lunar events and the Moon Lord a lot. It is the only other legit way to acquire Luminite. Also, there are both inventory editors and maps on the workshop to get luminite for free, but I'd use those last personally. Also, I will not give you Luminite.

There's no shame in it if you just want to see all the armor and weapons, it would just honestly be faster and easier to use Journey Mode and turn on God Mode.
