This will be a huge help for figuring out what weapons are best for ML.
Are you in Revengeance or Expert?
The first steps are getting ataxia armor. Spectre armor was nerfed by Calamity so it's not viable anymore. Upgrade your frozen wings to Xeroc wings. I forgot what I used against ML when I was mage, but The Swarmer along with Plague Hive can deal good dps against ML. Another good weapon is Arch Amaryllis.
Now for the potions. Zerg/Zen potions are a godsend if you need to grind for a specific item or don't want any enemies bothering you. When the tooltip says greatly reduced/increased, I mean GREATLY. Zen potion can make literally no enemies spawn besides what the boss spawns, while Zerg can make about 50 enemies spawn at once. Set up a herb farm. Buy planterboxes from the Dryad. For fishing, the Supreme Bait Tackle Box Fishing Station is a very OP accessory that can easily make your fishing experience a lot more easier.
For the arenas, Calamity mod relies on a good arena to make bosses easier. Put some time in the arenas. For ML, a 500 block wide row of platforms with another 500 block wide of blocks (to block the lasers) about 15-20 blocks high. If ML's eye ends up below the blocks, just fly up whenever he's about to shoot the lasers. Just run from one end of the arena to the other and switch sides.
Defiled Rune and Armageddon are your best friends for grinding. Defiled Rune makes your wings useless, but most rare items (below 5%) are boosted to 5%. This includes the Rod of Discord. Your best chance of survival comes with the Rod. Get that, and upgrade it to Normality Relocator (post-ML item). Armageddon makes all bosses one-hit you, but they drop six bags upon death. So grind a boss like EoC or Queen Bee for fast money. DON'T FORGET TO TURN BOTH OF THEM OFF WHEN FIGHTING A NEW BOSS!
Plan ahead. You'll want to be ready or close to ready to craft post-Yharon gear. Go for Auric Tesla as it'll be a huge help when fighting Supreme Calamitas. You'll also want to go for Subsuming Vortex.
If you don't know how to get any of the items listed above, just go to the Calamity wiki, or if you have the Recipe Browser mod, use that as well.
Good luck with your run!
I'm playing on normal mode btw. I made an expert world as well just to get the worm scarf and cthulhu shield but I haven't really been using them
I'd prefer to do it solo really, I want the sense of accomplishment from beating them myself! Sorry!
grab an arctic diving gear, a gill potion, equip iron boots as you find them and you should be able to breathe pretty long underwater.
if you have trouble with enemies, use anechoic coating, equip anechoic plating as you find it, and use spawn reduction potions like calm and zen.
Do the playthrough on an expert mode world. Trust me, it's much much easier (because you have 7 accessory slots and elysian tracers as well as a huge variety of expert-exclusive items). And yes, some items are annoying to get, but worth it in the long run! Plus, if you're in normal/expert mode, even vanilla items would suffice. Go for Nebula Blaze/Arcanum or the Swarmer like I said above.
Given you are mageing, im suprised you dont have crafted the Deific Amulet. With is overall decent.
Abyss gear can help you survive the abyss, you know,
Despides what people say Zen potion(and on a bit zerg) do nothing during boss fights. (As bossess project a invisible Zen aura.)
The potions should work in abyss. (Abyss got a unique "detection" system, not something for spawnrates :/)
I also made an Undine staff so I'm gonna go True Hero on Astrum Aureus, see if it works well. I also started working on a jungle rose farm but got lucky and got one while building it so i got the super flower. It hits like a truck but it seems like it might be kind hard to actually hit with since it doesnt have homing and theres a long delay before it explodes, is there a trick to using it? I haven't given the undine staff a try yet but so far it seems like tears of heaven are working best. I didnt try the bee gun thing you recommended since guns feel too rangey to me and I want to be a mage XD
Also I managed to upgrade my boots to angel boots, I'll have to kill ML to make them stronger though, and I got the first of the extra HP and MP upgrades
Gonna see about that deific amulet later, gtg out now, tyvm for the help so far :3
Edit: took a quick look at deific amulet recipe, I think the sharktooth necklace and celestial cuffs could be a problem. I've been checking travelling merchant everytime so far and he doesnt ever have celestial cuffs for me. Also I've been through quite a few bloodmoons and no sharktooth necklace. I'll keep an eye out for those things from now on though it looks like an upgrade to my star veil!
