Which is better?

So I have a hurtful beam sword (61 damage) and legendary cutlass (60 damage). This is a hard choise on which to choose because the beam sword does more damage and shoots a beam but it's kind of slow to swing and the beam recharges slowly as well. The cutlass has less damage and doesn't have a beam but it's real fast and it has good knockback. I started using the cutlass because I assumed I would get more damage out of it, since it is faster and I would hit an enemy more with it than with the beam sword. Which would you guys say I should use?

why do you need to choose? use both. use beam as ranged and use cutlass as melee

I might, but the beam sword recharges so slowly I would have to be switching back and forth all the time. For range I usually just use my bow

id say beam, your current cutlass is already legendary and you can still reforge the beam and make it better, i suggest u try it. not only can your beam sword get better but it can work as a ranged as well depending on what bow you use of course.
