Spirit flame or rainbow rod?

I'm trying to fight plantera master mode as a mage, i can fight in the 1 st phase with minimal to no damage taken but the second phase is a bit hard lol. I read some thread and watch videos and see that most of them used the rod. Is it better that way? i feel that the spirit deals a bit more compared to rainbow rod. I've reforged them to the best possible enchantment, got too rich from doing fishing quests

Rainbow rod at 2nd phase, you will want a big arena and avoid getting near her much as possible.

Finally beat him with the venom staff instead (also bigger arena + teleporter). Turns out my biggest problem was the armor, i changed from chlorophyte mage to turtle armor and the fight felt easier
