Premise: Hard mode is too hard.

I say this knowing a portion (maybe a major percentage) of readers will scoff and make fun or humble brag about how easy this all is until xyz (or all the way to the end). After hundreds of hours in the game I am still unable to kill The Destroyer (or either of the other two beginning HM bosses), desptite exhaustive research on the internet and utilization of all sorts of (obviously erroneous) strategems described there in (mostly as the "EZ way").

I have access to:

Armor suits: full frost armor, full adamantite armor (have enough to make titanium suit as well but it seems less good based on the stats), full bees

Weaponry: minishark + meteor ammo (alternatively endless pouch of ammo), onyx blaster (as an alternative gun), 2x beam swords, a bees knees bow, a hellwing bow (and plenty of arrows, jester, normal and hellish varieties), Gradient, Cascade and a number of other yo-yos, Nimbus Rod, Pirate Staff (the pirates it summons seem useless)

Misc gear: (All my misc gear has some defensive prefix): Frostspark boots, Anhk Shield (took me many many hours to finally assemble this one), Some expert items such as the worm scarf (a dubious idea I had of trying expert instead of going hardmode...realized it is just as hard), tons of ores, Angel Wings, Shark Tooth Neclace, Bee Cloak, Shield of Cthulhu, Pink Horseshoe Ballon (just so happens that's the one I was able to put together), A bunch of different yo-yo gear (though I have found yo-yos to be entirely ineffective against everything in hardmode.)


After reading up and watching vidoes:

Ive tried a skybridge melee approach (running over 2k blocks), and ended up getting it down about by 10k or so before dying. (I've died mid pressing the healing potion button too many times to count.) None of my melee weapons does anything worth talking about. I wish Starfury was a higher attack power weapon but alas it is too puny. The Beam Sword is horrible. The Beekeeper is lol but terrible.

Ive tried running away while firing various guns (none of which had much affect on his 80k though this approach did take more time before I died as I had the opportunity to shoot down most of his orbs which slowed the bleeding down a little.) This is also the approach I tried with the twins when they surprise attacked.


Ive tried the shoot it through a high small hovel (2 walls separated by 2 platforms, with campfire, heart statue +1 sec timer, and heart lantern.) This seemed work pretty well at first but then the destroyer suddenly lunged up and through my clouds and gunfire and basically one hit me (400hp only goes so far)


Feeling fairly depressed about this game since I put so much time and effort into trying not being crushed by the demonically ridiculous bosses but to no avail. Upgrading my gear has basically been a big waste of time it seems as nothing I have tried has been successful. I know that the whole point of platformers for some are the bragging rights for defeating the big bosses but honestly I'd be OK if there was 0 combat but all the end game materials were available. I like the fights when they are "fair" but overwhelming doesn't even begin to describe this experience.

I am posting this basically to vent because I have spent way too many hours (and have enjoyed it otherwise for too long (4+ years?) to downrate the game in a review but wanted to express my angst and fury at how difficult the game has become. Anyone else feel like wise?

Personally, I found that the Daedalus Bow is the best weapon for killing the Destroyer, especially if combined with Holy Arrows. Titanium Armour is actually slightly better than Adamantite Armour because it grants you a buff that allows you to avoid one attack every thirty seconds.

Furthermore, have you considered getting a better pair of wings than the Angel/Demon Wings? They're the lowest tier and provide the least mobility out of all the wings in the game. It might not mean much, but those extra five blocks of height really do matter.

The key operating phrase being "shoudl be able to"? Yeah I hear you. I am a scrub no doubt. I am surprised I guess that I was able to figure out how to beat the any of the other bosses...

@Shadow Actual: I want better wings for sure. Haven't found the right items to get them. As to the bow, I can tell you that every single time Ive encountered a mimic down below (in the huge hallow and growing by the second apparently), I have died disasterously and without really hurting it. Doesn't matter how I approach it. OP monster is too op for me.

Also I didn't see that information about titanium on the wiki. Does that make it superior to Frost Armor as well? (Losing the frostburn effect for the buff?)

For wings, you might be able to collect enough Pixie Dust to make a set of Fairy Wings. Or Bee/Butterfly wings. For the Mimics, perhaps you could try to make an arena in the Underground Hallow so that you can face them without getting backed into a corner?

Hmm... I'd say so, but only the melee helm gives more defense than the Frost Armor. Its up to you, really.

You can farm enough souls of night or light to make a key out of 15 souls. Place that in an EMPTY chest to summon a Corrupt or Hallowed Mimic, respectively. That way, you can fight them in a less cramped, controlled environment, such as an arena.

When I fight the Destroyer, I usually have full titanium and weapons that do piercing damage, such as a nimbus rod, crystal vile shard (from hallowed mimics), jester's arrows, or titanium spear. Piercing weapons are your absolute best friend in the Destroyer fight.

Also, if you're having trouble getting better wings, just farm money until you have a platinum coin (100 gold coins), make a house for the witch doctor in the jungle (or make an artificial jungle biome around his house via mud blocks and jungle seeds). At night, he'll be selling Leaf Wings, which is the best tier you could get at this point. Also, dump the horseshoe balloon and shark tooth necklace.
