How to place wood on edge of 4 block wide hellevator
I made 2 containment tunnels, 1 being made from dynamite, but I read crimson spiky thorns can go across and I need to line edges with wood. 2 problems with that.
1. It's hard to place wood on the edge and it's very time consuming. Also it's even harder with the one being made from dynamite.
2. It's about 2000 tiles to the underworld, so I'd need around 8k wood for the pre-hardmode crimson. Not to mention the wood needed for containing hallow and the V shaped crimson in hard mode.

Do I need to line the crimson edge, or both edges?

Sadly with what you are doing id have no clue. I have never played with dynamite like you are :P An entire tunnel system? lined with it? You are nuts to be so dangerous XD
I do know wood is always running out no matter how big your tree farms are lol

Just the edges wood have wood. It's just really annoying and tedious that the thorns spread crimson

Ya that is odd that the thorns do it not truly being a full block itself. But i guess i can see how it can.

You don't need to line the walls all the way with wood.

1. Thorns are objects, if there are other things around they can't spawn there. Such as rope or platforms that the player can pass through. So that's usually a better solution.

2. Thorns grow from dirt with crimson grass on. So just remove the outer parts that has grass / remove the gras and you should be fine.

3. This mostly becomes a problem in hardmode

Is it just me or does anyone else have no idea what this guy is trying to accomplish

I don't want th| crimson to spread to other parts of my world. While digging a 3-6 block wide hellevator works, spiky thorns can grow from the crimson and can infect blocks over the gap.

Can't spiky thorns only spawn near or on the surface??

They can spawn on crimson grass, so any grass that grows on the side of dirt that is in the hellevator can produce spiky thorns I'm pretty sure it says it on the wiki.

You can just drag rope down the hellevator on each side.
Way faster and much less tedious and still quite cheap.

Rope stops the thorns from growing on its place or past it.

Not to mention thorns won't grow in underground layers and below.
At least i never seen them grow that deep even if they do then refer to my post above.

That method still works for stopping thorns.

Well I'm pretty sure dirt can't spread that far down, and if you're super worried you can use Hallow as a barrier.

Do I just need to put wood on the side that will grow thorns?

Just rope is enough to stop the thorns from ever growing. Doesnt need to be a solid block like wood.
