don't buy this just because you like Minecraft
the two games are not similar at all. Terraria has an appeal for a certain kind of gamer but Minecraft has sold 9 times as many copies as Terraria, so don't think that you will automatically like this game just because you like Minecraft. Also the multiplayer servers are dead, I was expecting 1000s of players but the biggest server has only like 100 active players. Anyway if you like Minecraft and are thinking about buying this, my suggestion is don't.

both games are great in their own way and its unfair to compare the both of them.
Both terraria and minecraft have amazing mods that make the game 10x better
Both games have basic mine and craft things

Terraria has wayyy more enemies and bosses with alot more of the weapons and tools designed for fighting
Minecraft being 3d allows for infinite world generation and it more focused on exploring the infinite world with hidden temples and stuff.

They are amazing games and ive played both minecraft and terraria and i say they are both great.
If you love minecraft but prefer to do more killing and looting enemies that id pick terraria but if youre more geared towards adventure than play minecraft

Great reply. Yes, I didn't mean to suggest that Terraria is a bad game, it is a very good game. But as you said, it's more focused on killing and fighting bosses and that really ain't my thing at all.

As for mods, I had attempted to set up a couple of mods but the instructions were totally unclear, so I gave up. Anyway, I'm more into the whole creative/free build mode and that aspect is a lot stronger in Minecraft than in Terraria.

With the new update coming in terraria 1.4 there will be a creative mode, and there are also item maps that you can download and use any item from the game with your character

We don't know for sure if 1.4 will actually have a creative mode. It is possible but not certain yet.

well anyway i finally got tmodloader to work, so i'll just mess around on god mode and cheat sheet mods for a while. So yea i am giving the game another go

downloading mods is SO MUCH Safer in terreria

ok i will say this. If you are looking for a creative mode similar to minecraft, then download tmodloader and Hero's Mod and Cheat Sheet mod. Follow the instructions in the tmodloader folder and then google "how to install Cheat Sheet mod" and watch that youtube video. It's not that hard actually, although they definitely could have made mods easier to install for this game. Anyway i am playing it now and it's pretty interesting.

It has many similarities and many differences. You can't assume people won't like it based on your own preferences.

I spent a couple dozen hours easy on my base alone, and then still adding to it as I go along. The building aspect is there, it just depends how creative you are. Bosses are there for when you want to progress a bit and have a challenge.

I'd say play this if you want content, good gameplay and like the overall aesthetic. You basically spend most of your time doing the same thing in both games, mining, crafting and building.

Edit: this was the easiest game to install mods for, not sure what you're doing.

once i figured it out it was easy enough, yea. The youtube video i mentioned cleared it up.

Yeah it's pretty much copy paste the contents of the download into your game folder. Bam done. Make a backup of the folder beforehand if you want.

I just started my second playthrough with mods, compatibility is the only issue, but that's like any game. I had dozens of chests in vanilla, so now this is getting out of hand, running all the extra content related mods. Even ran out of memory so had to install the 64bit version..:lunar2019deadpanpig:

lastly, i'll add that the multiplayer aspect of this game is extremely dead. So if you are looking for really populated servers, you might want to avoid this game. Literally the most populated public server, Pedguin, has only like 70 to 100 online players at any time. So please don't buy this game expecting a strong multiplayer element like you see in Minecraft.

you have started a war mate

Depends what kind of multiplayer you're looking for. 95% of this forum is people forming groups all the time. Like dozens a day.. For high pop servers, Minecraft is better suited since you have more room, in a 2d world it can get cluttered. Here it's more for custom maps or doing something specific, so most people play small groups.

But it's not dead. I'll check the forum every day or two since I started and it's constantly being filled with group requests.
