If you're unwilling to ignore the pirate invasion and are intent on dealing with it immediately, one thing you can do is try to immediately build a secure box around yourself whenever you respawn. It may take a few tries as the pirates kill you while you're building but, once you've managed to build some safe walls around yourself, you can more calmly think about what to do next. One good thing about the pirate invasion is that most of the enemies cannot go through walls. The one exception is the Pirate's Curse, which spawns from a killed Pirate Captain. As long as you do not kill the Pirate Captain, nothing should be able to kill you through the walls. You have some options, such as calling in other players to help if you're truly desperate, or tunneling around beneath the surface until you can find a better vantage point from which to fight, or you could even attempt to build skyward from your secure box so that you have a higher platform to fight from. You do still need to be careful of enemies that can fire at you when you open up a part of the wall to fight back against them. There are various creative ways you can deal with the invasion. If you're willing to ignore the invasion for a while, you can try tunneling far downward away from spawn and spend some time searching for upgrades such as new accessories that might help you. If you can make your way to some demon or crimson altars, you can use your recently acquired Pwnhammer to smash them and release new ores into your world. With those ores you should be able to craft new gear. You may have to do your crafting away from your spawn point due to the invasion.
When I first got to hardmode i was playing with 3 friends, 2 were new like me and the other one knew a lot of stuff. On the first and second nights of hardmode Destroyer came and farmed us. It was pretty funny but also frustating.
Cause it's your first time playing you can't do much about it, when this stuff happens (events) to me and I'm solo I use a stronger character and after it's done I go back to playing normally. I think you can avoid pirates and goblins by exiting the world before the evasion starts, but I'm not sure.
But yeah, if you have some friends that plays Terraria you could ask them for some advice/hints/guidance, like "hey, can you tell me some cool stuff to do? I'm playing ranged and I've done *these things* "
