Pirate Invasion in Ocean Biome?
Hi,
the wiki says you can fight the pirates in or near the ocean so that you can get more maps to summon them.
"If you got at least one pirate map, you can fight the pirate invasion inside the ocean. Due to the number of mobs spawned by the event, it is possible that you get several maps every invasion. (Note: This requires an Ocean biome near your spawn point - artificial or otherwise)"
http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Pirate_Map
So I followed the instructions and built a house at the ocean with a bed as my new spawn point.
But the pirates went to my home (in middle of the world) and ignored my new spawn point.
Why? Does a bed do not work? Need I to build an ocean biome near the middle?

It might mean that if you make an artificial ocean near the world spawn rather than move your spawn to the ocean, although I have had pirates spawn in the ocean when my spawn has been at the centre of the map.

You cannot make an artifical ocean. Or dungeon, or jungle temple, for that matter.

Then what is meant by the wiki "Note: This requires an Ocean biome near your spawn point - artificial or otherwise"?
If I cant create an ocean of my own, how should I lure the pirates to it?

im pretty sure ocean biome is enough water and near the edge of the world so you should be able to artifically create it but there is really no point.
If you go to the ocean where the pirates are said to be coming from, they will spawn there.

That could be an idea, thanks!
I've regularly done complete pirate invasions while afk (summoner) at my natural ocean. I do have my angler living there though. Might have something to do with it.

^This. You HAVE to have an NPC living nearby for an invasion to stay where you want it. Otherwise it will just go to your spawn, because that's usually where the NPC's are.

I recommend bringing the nurse along for her auto-healing, because if the NPC in the house dies the whole event will despawn and move to your base with the other NPC's.

Ah ok, thank you!
I should have mention it that I followed the guide in the wiki and built lava pits besides the house.... xD So I hope the pirates cant hurt me or the npc.
Thanks for your help!
the invasion gets to 3-5% in the ocean(have 4 npcs there and bed as spawn point) but then disappears, then proceeds to go to the middle of the map in the original spawn point :(

A yearold thread.
Since someone ressurected it I will just add:

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but an easy way to get maps is to just create an artificial jungle platform over the ocean and sit in some water. The mobs will attract to you and just mass kill them.

No point in wasting time trying to make that stuff work, and pirates like other events focus on the first / center world spawn. They don't necessarily care where you move to.
