Classic isn't exactly how classic Terraria was, it really is easy mode. It uses the same formulas as classic Terraria, but has items from modern terraria which are kinda overpowered for classic. Difficulty-wise, expert mode is closer to old Terraria. If you consider starting a master mode, you'll likely be bored to death by classic.
I think classic is a bad idea though unless you have never touched a 2d platformer or are new to using a keyboard and mouse.
Also a slight oversight is mastermode characters being able to go into lower difficulty worlds meaning you can get the armor or weapons from the start.
Master mode is not really hard just takes longer. For example the empress of light kills you 1 hit daytime no matter the defense on your armor. If you could avoid her normally then just do it for awhile more. The only thing different from is normal to expert. In other words if you can beat expert you can more than likely beat master mode. Just gotta keep attacking and dodging for a bit longer than you usually would've.
