Edit: The razorpine is one of the best weapons, with a longer range than bubble gun, but slightly lower dps
Nightglow vs Razorblade Typhon, for example. I'ld say you can use whatever you find first. Similar with Bubble Gun vs Razorpine. They feel a tad different, but in most situations it's just whatever you've get your hands on first.
When it comes to bosses and events, though, you'll find plenty of weapons that outperform it due to their higher DPS. Nebula Blaze can be thought of as a more powerful version of the Razorblade Typhoon with the downside of a much higher mana cost, as well as requiring a bit more aiming since its homing is not quite as strong. Nebula Arcanum is kind of like the opposite of the Typhoon, being difficult to use due to its slow projectiles but capable of some of the highest DPS in the game if used right. Both are very good and the Blaze is one of the best weapons to use against the Moon Lord, while the Arcanum can shred just about everything else.
The Nightglow and Stellar Tune are also both really good. Nightglow functions similarly to the Nebula Blaze but with better homing in exchange for a slightly higher mana cost, and Stellar Tune is kind of like a Bubble Gun with more (but still limited) range and lower (but still high) damage.
The entrance to my base is a vertical hole in the ground that gobs can’t enter (because of reasons). This helps explain why I gravitated towards the typhoon, since I’ve usually been able to fire it up and out of the base, and have it bounce around attacking enemies. These other weapons are likely better when used in the field, in a more open environment. My lack of mana may also explain why I use the typhoon, since I can spam it considerably more than these other weapons.
