I switched to mage and beat him first try.
I haven't actually tested the Sunfury, so I can't speak for that- but I imagine it may suffer from similar issues as the Cascade. The Night's Edge, however, simply will not work as you have to position yourself far too close to the boss for it to even be somewhat effective.
About the tunnel strategy as well, you may only want to position it to begin at the latter half of the fight where the lasers start to become rapid and stronger as it'll give you more breathing room to dodge leeches beforehand. And make sure the tunnel roof isn't minimum height so you can at least make an attempt to dodge any leeches at that part of the fight.

Are you TRUE melee or just using melee weapon ? if all melee weapon are allowed the yoyo High five is pretty good with counter weight/ white cord + hive pack.
PS: Don't forget to buff with a sharpening station for more armor penetration before the fight.
