Stuck at Celestial Pillars
I can't seem to make any progress because all the enemies are too strong! I feel like my armour (turtle) is just not equipped for it at all, but there doesn't seem to be anything stronger i can craft? I noticed the tavernkeep offers some pretty strong stuff but trying to defend the crystal tier 3 seems even worse than the aliens! I'm kinda stuck and could maybe use some tips? Besides just slowly picking off the aliens over multiple lives.

Sounds like you are trying to tank the pillars. Having a small honey pit to stand in with heart statues nearby on a timer and a bast statue nearby will help along with various potions.

However, if your trying to tank your way through on expert or master mode, you need to understand that tanking on those modes is difficult on expert and impossible on master.
You have to learn how to be good at dodging and creating arenas to conquer expert and master (most importantly dodging)

Grind golem kills to get beetle shells, then use those to upgrade your turtle armor. Also don't forget that the pillars don't reset unless you go far away from one for a while, so try staying at the edge of their biome so you can duck out and regen. Also also kill the stardust pillar first and make the dragon summon, it helps a ton no matter what your build is. Good luck!

Depending on what your using for weapons and accessories there are several sets over the turtle armor that can be obtained pre-lunar. For melee the Beetle Armor would be most wanted, Shroomite armor for Ranger, Spectral for Mage, and Spooky for Summoner :)
The Wiki page online is a lifesaver for anything that is Terraria :) Ive learned too much from the Wiki and still learning. Ive also forgot things that its reminded me about Haha
1) Walk slowly towards the pillar
2) When the background shifts to the pillar,
3) Wait for a couple of enemies to spawn
4) and then run away and kite them to death

5) --> 1)

When the shield goes down - which you now have a nice healthbar for - stay far, far, out of range and grab any decent gun and any ammo. Gun projectiles aren't affected by gravity and take ages to despawn, and the pillars never despawn, so you can stand miles away and snipe the pillars out of existence. Use a DPS meter to tell if you're hitting them or not.

Slow, yes. But reasonably safe and reasonably satisfying.

Just be aware that if you're struggling with the pillars, moon lord will annihilate you. Obviously the pillars drop stuff that will help you with that.

I managed to get through the pillars, but died on the Moon Lord. Then I did the pillars again for more fragments but didn't even try the Moon Lord since I knew I had no chance. After crafting some stuff with my new loot I took down the pillars once more and this time the Moon Lord with them.
