Falling star spawn rate

Havent played terraria since 1.3 release. Did falling stars get a spawn chance increase? Im pre-hardmode and just beat the skull then decided to explore for some stars. End up getting 59 in a night with only exploring to one ocean, even found around 7 that fell within 20-30 blocks of each other then having 2 more fall in the same place as I was picking up those 7.

I have played the game since 2012, and after not playing for a while a couple years ago, I noticed a large increase in stars. Only update note I can find on the wiki is "Fallen Star rates dramatically increased during Meteor Showers."

Yeah occasionally there'll be an unnanounced meteor shower event that causes fallen stars to fall everywhere.
