Can't join my friends Terraria world

Every time we try to play together, it says that the connection was lost or I just stay on connecting infinitely. This is not a dedicated server, I am trying to join him through steam. Does anybody know why this may happen?

Same here. Till yesterday everything worked fine.

Me too, join via Steam worked fine until the last update now it just says connecting but never joins.

Sometimes the person hosting the game has to restart the server. I don't know why, but this happens to me sometimes. Apparently the game will forget your online running a multiplayer game and will switch you to a single player game. The only fix i've found is for the host to exit the game and try to start the server over again.

In my case it’s not a dedicated server it’s just joining through Steam on the same household.

1. Exit your game
2. Restart your device
3. Get the host to rejoin the server
4. Wait for a prolonged period of time
5. Attempt to rejoin
6. Don't use steam host and use a port
7. Try playing on the same LAN connection
8. Play near the host on a mobile device or not
9. Reconnect to the internet
10. Check internet connection
11. Run virus scans for anything slowing or blocking access
12. Tell someone in authority
13. Try running as administrator (if you have an account)
14. Reinstall the game
15. See if you can join anyone else's world first
16. Close all or most programs running in the background or running live
