Can't access items in chests at my crafting station.

I just started playing again and assumed this was a dev change, but I can't find any info on it. Is there something I'm missing or is this a bug? Thanks for any help in advance.

What exactly happens? You open the chest and don't see recipes with items from it?

If I open a chest near the crafting station, yes, I am able to craft items made from materials in that chest. However, the last time I played you could just have the chests nearby. You didn't even have to open them to access their contents for crafting. Is that not the case anymore?

that has never been the case

you allways had to have the chest open or the items directly in your invintory to craft it

No, but he experienced it some time ago, so I though it maybe was before 1.14.
