IMO the class that really suffers in 1.4 is the ranger class. The damage on ranged weapons needs to be buffed to make them comparable to all those projectile swords and there really needs to be way more than just two ranged-exclusive accessories. Right now rangers need to rely on tinkers of the same one or two accessories to max their damage.
Either that, or quaffing mana pots and ruining your damage output.
I do love what happened to Razorblade typhoon in 1.4.1 and since it's my no.1 mage weapon i'd say it was a buff.
Mages definitely have an extremely tough time until the beginning of hardmode, but I was previously constantly disappointed with most magic weapons until Golem and Fishron. It was hard to beat Cursed Flames and Flamelash in terms of useability, despite how cool weapons like Blood Thorn looked.
Magic weapons were in dire need of balancing, which 1.4.1 seems to have done.
