Pre-hardmode snow flinx farm?

Hello! I have started a new summoner playthrough and haven't been lucky enough to find a finch from my living trees. I've heard that the next best thing to get would be flinx fur stuff but my snow biome doesn't have any natural caves.

My main question is how do I farm flinx fur? I have an iron pickaxe and wonder if I should work on a better one before trying anything but after I do then how do I make the farm?

There are definitely caves down below, so just dig until you hit something, then just open up a large area and creatures will start spawning.

To speed up the process, go to the underground desert and see if you can find an Ancient chisel in the desert chests (increases mining speed by 25%). You can also get a fossil pickaxe which has a decent mining speed (crafted using ancient fossils. Also go to the regular caverns and kill every undead miner you find, until they drop both a mining chest piece and leggings. Then buy a mining helmet from the merchant, all together it will increase mining speed by 30%.

All these plus a mining potion will make pre hardmode mining so much faster (keep them in hardmode as well).

I've used around 30 bombs and I haven't found a real cave. Just small bits in the walls and a single house

Well you can always just make your own, just keep bombing until a large enough area opens up. Probably better this way because you won’t have to worry about enemies spawning in different caves.

I think a water candle should help. Open up an area and put wooden platforms down in the area, with torches and campfires if you need more regen, I'd say.

Do you know any easy ways to get a battle potion since my dungeon doesn't have any easy water candles?

It’s crafted using a deathweed, bottle of water, and a vertebrae/rotten chunk. Also I assume you’re playing on a small world?

Make sure you're deep enough below the Snow biome before you start bombing out a cave. Snow Flinx don't spawn close to the surface. Dig down until you hear the music change to the Underground Snow theme, then start clearing out a space.

You can make a water candle if you put a crystal ball thingie in water and go near it with a candle and then craft. Not sure if you can get the wizard yet or not

No, I play on large worlds and this one is giving me a bit of trouble since I don't know much about starting as a summoner

Since this is the beginning of the game and i haven't killed my first boss, I don't think the wizard can spawn

Thank you. I've read that they can't spawn on snow, ice, and some other stuff. Should I place dirt blocks everywhere after I'm done to get them?

According to the wiki[terraria.gamepedia.com] Snow Flinx won't spawn on Snow, Ice Blocks, or Thin Ice. Dirt, Slush, Wood, Stone, Ore deposits, anything else is fair game. Just dig out your cavern, smooth out the bottom, and lay a wood or dirt floor over it; that should be the easiest way to ensure their spawn.

Wizard only spawns after killing the WOF, so you won’t be able to get him yet
