Which version of Terraria would you recommend? The Steam one or the GOG one?
I bought the game in GOG but I see that tModLoader is not implemented yet. Should I refund the game and buy it on Steam when it's on sale? I found it on GOG at a very cheap price, under 2 dollars.

But I got it for a very good price, should I still refund it?

you don't need steam for tmodloader

https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/wiki/tModLoader-guide-for-players

Scroll down to manual installation.

Steam is good if you want a middleman involved. I.e. Some third party who will make sure there is nothing funny going on either on the developer's end or the customer's end. But Re-logic has proven to be a fair company and Terraria is cheap as it is so no huge worries there.

The reason I am glad I got Terraria on Steam is because Steam became a gateway to many other interesting games. But if all you want is Terraria and you want the security of knowing your game is truly yours (I.e. No bootstrapper or logging in required) then it may be worth going with GOG.

Only benefit of Steam is to have it with all your other Steam games. It's probably easier to join people's games as well. Other than that, they're pretty much the same. You can even fix the first issue by using GOG Galaxy now.
