btw queen slime IS the first boss you fight in hardmode right? this is my first 1.4 playthrough

No, typically you fight one of the mechanical bosses, obviously you can do Queen Slime if you want though. Maybe fight the pirate invasion and try to get the black spot? It makes fighting her much easier.

If you have terraspark boots you should try making the floor of your arena out of lava. It will kill all the minions so you only have to focus on dodging the boss’s attacks. By no means do you need to beat a mech first

The black spot won't do nothing. It was nerfed. But if you like a flying mount, go grind for it. :)

make a long platform
first phase just play it on high ground and dodge the balls or the charge
second phase just run and dodge the balls and the queen slime
dont forget to use potions
melee just use yoyo
range use gun with crystal bullets or bow with ichor arrow
never played mage so k
summoner use the firecracker or cool whip and spider staff (sanguine if you are extremely lucky)

It still works after nerf, not as fast obviously, but the Queen slime is slower

You dont need the black spot, just use lava to get rid of the other slimes

It is the first Hardmode boss, it's just terribly designed. It randomly, incoherently spams projectiles from every angle in the second phase, making it a more difficult than any of the mech bosses at the same point in time with the same gear. I find it funny how Relogic advertised the Empress of Light as the "bullet hell" boss when she never fires that many projectiles and they have a consistent pattern to them. Queen Slime is a much better candidate for that descriptor.
