AFAIK it doesn't work on PC and current-gen consoles.
Waterleaf and Deathweed are best candidates for your plant farm, since they don't bloom often and you don't want to have to go out and hope you'll find some blooming plants each time it's raining or on blood moons - do it once or twice for each plant and you won't have to worry about them anymore (just harvest them from your farm and replant each time there;s an event the plant needs).

You know, you can just open it in steam's overlay for quick access...
Even alt-tabbing isn't a problem, since Terraria isn't very demanding game (and it even pauses unless you use steam overlay)
