Elevator?

Is it possible to build an elevator or vertical mine track to get up and down quickly?


I'm a complete beginner to Terraria, and am building my first mine track system

It's entirely possible and even recommended to have a 2 tile wide shaft always going straight until you hit the underworld (hell).
-Close off both side walls after exploring the caves you mine into for convenience, because hitting a random slime while falling down will get you killed (surely in hardmode if not before that, since the enemies hit 100-200 hp in early hardmore).
-To go down use ropes or cobwebs (place them directly under your feet to break the fall), or you can leave some water at the bottom as well.
-Equipping the slime mount will make you fall even faster than freefalling.
-To go back up, just use a mirror/recall potion/wormhole on friends/relogging/death.

falling on water does not hurt u either. so just make a small pit at the end add water in it and yr good. Now for the real qusetion. you can make a type of elevator but the work to require is very stupid. If you know any thing about the hoik system u can do it that way. just use google to learn how.
