Creating and containing artificial biomes
I've recently cleansed a medium world from both hallow and corruption, but I'd like to keep contained pockets of biomes.

I've started this as a sample (almost at the bottom of a natural desert chasm), but I know it'll keep spreading from under the walls. Will making the walls thicker help at all? Should I start breaking the natural walls from the outside in?

Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback.

You should start breaking the natural walls, as some can and WILL get corrupted/hallow'd from blocks. (I think atleast.) Go safe.
Go break atleast in a 5 block range (Walls)
Hope I helped.

You sure did. I made a wall fissure from the chasm's entrance and hammered out the walls around the slabs. Will monitor the next few game days to see if it will hold.
How did you even manage to cleans an entire world?

Before defeating the Wall of Flesh I had spelunked my way around most of the cavern system, so it wasn't hard to spot where the "V" of corruption and hallow started to spread. I DID get lucky to have my corruption spawn to the snow side, so it was limited to the ice and easier to control.

It's more tiresome than difficult, really. You map out where you went and check regularly with the Dryad to see if the rates are going down. Eventually it gets clean.

Not really. The Clentaminator (with Ammo Box and Ammo Reservation to save some money) works really fast, as long as you start the work soon.

You should post this in the guide section of the forums so people can see this and refer back to it easily.

I dont really know how this is a Guide to be honest... It's more like a question, isn't it :/

It could be rephrased into a guide :steamhappy:
EDIT: Ironically, for phrasing.

Good point actually :O!

If you're worried about the background walls corrupting other areas you don't need to worry. Background walls themselves don't actually spread corruption/crimson/hollow. It's more that corruption(/etc) blocks can corrupt applicable background walls from pretty far away.

For example.

You can see here that the background walls only become corrupted so far from a source of corruption and you can also see that they won't spread corruption themselves to other blocks.

So as long as a minimum distance is kept between the surrounding walls and the corrupted/hallowed blocks, the biome is kept to the original size. That's a relief.

Thank you so much for the tips, everyone. The corruption biome has been holding well (I ended up lowering it to cavern depth), so now it's time to get the hallowed one going.

Well, background walls don't contribute to biomes, so you don't really need to worry about the background walls at all. Unless you're fussed about the aesthetic of course.
