The hallow spawns in a half V shape, the other half being the Evil. It will overwrite corruption/crimson in its spread, but NOT snow.
Best way to figure out where it is, go to the center of your world and dig to the underground. Then look east or west. If you find the corrption/crimson, go the other way. Alternatively, if you are like me and want to contain all corruption/crimson/hallow and want to know exactly where it is without using a map viewer program, make two long skybridges out of stone that extend most of the world, separate them by like 30-40 blocks high, then when the V hits, you can extrapolate the V line by using the 4 points on the stone bridges that have turned.
