If you're looking for defense just use the flesh knuckles
So, since Lucky might as well not exist, Menacing and Warding are the way to go. Unless you're playing Master I guess.
I suck at dodging and i still prefer Menancing over Warding.
Having high defense on Expert or Master barely helps and enemies get more tanky so you need extra bit of dmg.
Going melee with full Warding on Normal on the other hand is just a waste, You don't need it might aswell go Menancing or Lucky instead.
If you're on master mode, Then it's a choice between -14 damage per hit and +28 percent damage.

yes
Mage's weapon arsenal is the most varied, so naturally it can go either ways for you.
But mage is the best class to be using luck modifiers on. This only applies if your world has Orichalcum however.
Orichalcum helmet + reforged accessories = base 50% luck even in pre-mech boss. You will do better damage then most menacing loadouts, although your lack of set bonus will be a thing. Mixed armor sets man!
