I think the latest update has ruined my playthrough.
I just loaded the last save I made, which was made before the latest update. All my npcs are now complaining that they're unhappy, and it appears recipes have been changed. I was going to follow a guide I found that may help me actually complete hardmode, but I can't acquire the items now. Looking them up, apparently they've been nerfed now too. I see no way I can complete the game now. I'm thinking I may just have to give up on that save and start a new one. I was hoping to complete the game before the update came out, but I failed. I was hoping that update wouldn't be applied to that game since it was made before, but apparently it does which means my whole world is completely screwed up. Right now, I wish I had a way to revert the update so I could finish that save rather than starting all over again. Also, the game looks hideous now for some reason. And my inventory is now super tiny and I apparently don't have the ability to change that. Its making me think I may never be able to play this game again, due to my crappy dexterity. And I have vision problems, so I can hardly even see my own inventory anymore.

So yeah, forced update sabotaged my save file, and now I may not even be able to play this game. What, do they think everyone has perfect 20/20 vision and the dexterity of a god? If it wasn't for spell checkers, I wouldn't seriously even be able to type. At this point, I'm tempted to just uninstall the game. Why bother playing it if I can't do so anymore?

♥♥♥♥ steam. I should never have bought anything from them. I only keep regretting it more and more as forced updates sabotage my games WITHOUT MY CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE. I can't even play skyrim SE anymore due to forced updates. Its getting to the point where I can't play anything I've purchased on here anymore. ♥♥♥♥ steam, and ♥♥♥♥ any company that's stupid enough to put their product on this completely bs platform.

what update are you even talking about? There hasn't been one in 7 weeks.
The last major update. I haven't turned my game on in months, so I don't know what updates there have been other than the 'jouney's end' one.

And you're complaining about that? Why?

Npc happiness is not needed to complete the game. what recipes were changed which were they? i don't know of many that have changed. What stage of the game are you in? You can change the UI size in the settings, just experiment around with it. And if you need help with a certain boss, i could help you.
The goblin tinkerer is asking me for an atrocious amount of money to re-forge stuff. I have most of my npcs located in a single large house up in space. I've already spawned the celestial pillars, so my ability to move around the map is limited. I also have yet to defeat duke fishron, because I've just been unable to do so. I was planning on switching out my armor and some of the accessories. However, I don't see how I could farm everything I need with my world the way it is, and the gear I have. I'm thinking I need to just start a new world, and a new character. Thinking I'll go with a mage build this time rather than a melee one, since that seems to be stronger. Besides, I never liked warrior characters in games anyway. I just went that route just to be different and mess with gear I rarely bother to use.

First of, Goblin tinkerer ALWAYS charges atrocious amounts of money. Second Celestial pillars just need time and patience; Killing some enemies, dying, killing some enemies, dying, breaking the shield, killing a pillar, and repeat. Third The switching classes, refer to the previous. Fourth, by all means make a new character and world, there's nothing stopping you. Fifth, Warrior is the strongest endgame.

dying is not an option in hardcore or mediumcore
There is Terarria Tweaker 2 if you don't mind patching your game.

hacking? this ain't no place for hackers

No. Ranged is better. And before you say it, no, Zenith doesn't suddenly make it the best class, nor does Solar armor's defense.
Why would you restart when you can just get the new items needed for recipes? It might take less time just to get some new item like that compared to getting a new world and game going.

And NPCs may be unhappy but that doesn't break the game. I still keep all my NPCs together because I like having them together.

If it really was hacking, the tool would've been removed much earlier. Plus, I don't think Relogic's that sensitive about user-made patches, if tModLoader's anything to go by.
How is the inventory "Super Tiny" now..?

I'm unable to travel around my own world anymore, because no matter where I gave I get one-shotted by celestial pillar mobs despite the fact that I have the highest armor that was possible to achieve prior to Journey's End. What's the point in throwing myself at the pillars over and over again when I rarely live long enough to kill any of them? Its dicey just trying to by-pass them with my skybridge because as I said, they can one-shot me even though I have a base defense of 78 from my armor alone. And because of the overcrowding thing, the tinkerer is charging me 50 GOLD just to reforge a single item. How am I supposed to get the best modifiers when I have spend over a dozen platinum to do so? Yeah, he's always been expensive, but not THAT expensive.

I need to just reset. Make a new world that I can actually traverse, and I never transfer characters between worlds because that just feels like cheesing it. Besides, the game now has a bunch of new features, so I'd rather experience them as they were intended; without end-game gear (even if my gear does obviously suck, I mean, I can't even handle Duke Fishron because he takes off too much of my hp per hit, and I don't seem to be able to deal damage to him either).

sounds like maybe the game resolution changed because OP got a better video card or monitor since he last played. So OP, if that's the case, just go to your game settings and change the resolution. Or go to windowed mode and drag out the window to the size you want, if you don't want a standard game window size.

I'm unable to travel around my own world anymore, because no matter where I gave I get one-shotted by celestial pillar mobs despite the fact that I have the highest armor that was possible to achieve prior to Journey's End.

Attack the monsters that are defending the pillars, and that will weaken the pillar. After some time, then you can attack the pillar directly.

Meaning that you don't even have to get right into the thick of things to fight the monsters. Just stand near the edge of it of where the monsters appear, get a few monsters to come towards you, kill them, rinse and repeat.

But the other case is that if you aren't able to withstand some hits from them and stay in the thick of things, then either it means you really don't have the previously highest set of armor, or you somehow got carried into the end-game and haven't really learned how to maneuver and fight things..including carrying a gun or other ranged weapon to fight the monsters.

However, you didn't mention what mode you're playing in, so that could factor into this also. But again, if you got to previous end-game in that mode, I don't see how the pillars and pillar monsters would give you much trouble.
