And NPCs may be unhappy but that doesn't break the game. I still keep all my NPCs together because I like having them together.
I'm unable to travel around my own world anymore, because no matter where I gave I get one-shotted by celestial pillar mobs despite the fact that I have the highest armor that was possible to achieve prior to Journey's End. What's the point in throwing myself at the pillars over and over again when I rarely live long enough to kill any of them? Its dicey just trying to by-pass them with my skybridge because as I said, they can one-shot me even though I have a base defense of 78 from my armor alone. And because of the overcrowding thing, the tinkerer is charging me 50 GOLD just to reforge a single item. How am I supposed to get the best modifiers when I have spend over a dozen platinum to do so? Yeah, he's always been expensive, but not THAT expensive.
I need to just reset. Make a new world that I can actually traverse, and I never transfer characters between worlds because that just feels like cheesing it. Besides, the game now has a bunch of new features, so I'd rather experience them as they were intended; without end-game gear (even if my gear does obviously suck, I mean, I can't even handle Duke Fishron because he takes off too much of my hp per hit, and I don't seem to be able to deal damage to him either).
sounds like maybe the game resolution changed because OP got a better video card or monitor since he last played. So OP, if that's the case, just go to your game settings and change the resolution. Or go to windowed mode and drag out the window to the size you want, if you don't want a standard game window size.
Attack the monsters that are defending the pillars, and that will weaken the pillar. After some time, then you can attack the pillar directly.
Meaning that you don't even have to get right into the thick of things to fight the monsters. Just stand near the edge of it of where the monsters appear, get a few monsters to come towards you, kill them, rinse and repeat.
But the other case is that if you aren't able to withstand some hits from them and stay in the thick of things, then either it means you really don't have the previously highest set of armor, or you somehow got carried into the end-game and haven't really learned how to maneuver and fight things..including carrying a gun or other ranged weapon to fight the monsters.
However, you didn't mention what mode you're playing in, so that could factor into this also. But again, if you got to previous end-game in that mode, I don't see how the pillars and pillar monsters would give you much trouble.
