Anyways, I did 7 blocks wide since I heard thorns can bridge the gap and cause problems. I also coated each side with wood and have had 0 crimson spread into my jungle.
the corruption will just go through the hole to make a v when you beat wof
Been a thing since 1.2 I believe.
As for the question. Blocks spread up to 3 tiles so 3 tile gap is enough. No need to fill it. But you can fill it with any type of block or object, platforms, torches, ropes etc.
Doing so prevents the Hardmode thorns to grow from the corrupted grass.
But you can likewise just place some stone or something at the end of the corruption side and it also solves the problem.
No, 3 blocks is the minimum and its safe assuming no thorns are able to grow. Evil cannot jump any further than that.
And thorns can be stopped by dragging a rope through the hellevator sides. So if you don't feel like replacing all the blocks on sides with uncorruptable ones use rope its faster. Been doing fine with 3-4 block wide hellevators.
Also before someone comes here saying that background walls spread evils:
I did bust some of the misconceptions regarding the spread here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yL_22LQuCc
-Minimum block spread is 3 blocks
-Wall corruption/crimson cannot happen if there is no infected foreground block present and cannot reach too far from it.
-Wall corrpution / crimson is cosmetic and has no effect on happiness / valid housing / cannot affect foreground.
On the plus side though, it does look nice (to me at least) and is sealed off with some small doorways here and there.
