Is there any way to grow palm trees in an artificial beach?
So I made a big artificial beach in the middle of the map, above surface level, and planted some acorns in the sand hopping for palm trees.

They don't seem to be growing, they stay in sapling form. Wiki says palm tree grow on ocean biome, not just on sand. So is there any way to make them grow?

Thanks in advance :D

Edit: screenshot of the place

Palm trees grow on Any form of sand meaning putting acorns in a desert will still result in palm trees.

Well I just wanted to have a fancy base with a beach :D thanks for the answer anyway!

Well this is what I thought, but it doesn't seem to happen. I planted acorns on the sand but they don't seem to be growing. Is there any way to plant saplings directly? Or do you mean just the same I'm doing?

Are they close to other objects? That might stop them.

Is there a background behind the tree besides the vista?

There is no background, and they have nothing around them. Anyway palm trees don't need the space other trees require, they grow in a single tile and they grow next to each other (you can mine the sand blocks around a palm tree and leave only one with the tree standing on it.

I tried planting normal trees to see if the problem is the place, and they do grow. It is on surface, over 440', and the space to the roof also meets the requirements, proved by the other trees growing.

This is the place. Palm trees won't grow for some reason :c

Try flattening out the Beach area, planting the trees, and when they (hopefully!) grow, terraform the Beach again.

They won't grow where you are planting them since you are still in a forest biome. Go plant them in your desert when you actually hear desert music and background.

Now that makes sense! Cactus are growing around, tho. And according to wiki, they should grow
An area is considered a Desert biome if there are at least 1000 sand blocks, causing the water and background to change, but desert plants and enemies can spawn on even a single block of sand.

I will try that too! Thanks for the answers everyone!

Well, I can say with certainty that ocean biomes are restricted to to the sides of the world and no amount of sand and water will make it an ocean biome. But if palm trees will grow in any sand it should work.

The only possible cause I can think of is that the block you planted on, in your screenshot, is one block lower than the tree you planted next to it. You might still not have enough space because of that 1 block height.

plant them on sand not dirt for starters
