Dash item?

Some people are talking about using dash items to dodge bosses.
I never got a dash item for myselv!

Am I overseeing something, or they very rare?

after killing the eye of cthulu you get a shield of cthulu which gives a dash

On expert mode/master mode.
edit: you can also get a dash item from a enemy in the post plantera dungeon
