Good Starter Mod?

I'd start with Thorium, it's much more flesed out than Calamity. Oh, and then try Calamity >:)

Thorium's a nice content mod, and Yet Another Boss Health Bar and Recipe Browser are good mods that add no items, but instead add UIs.

How do I install the Tmodloader into Terraria I started by simply puting the extracted file in Terrarias file

Yep; Make sure it's the Steam folder and not the folder in Documents.
