Oh, you just kill the enemies down there. Some of them will spawn a spirit on death that you can kill, and it drops the ectoplasm.

I don't know what the chances are that they'll spawn it on death, so you just gotta keep killing them.

You get ectoplasm from dungeon area by killing the white ghosts that either spawn naturally or come from enemies.

To get it you need to beat plantera and get the message: The dungeon spirits echo

to get plantera you need to beat the mechanical bosses

to beat the mechanical bosses you need to enter hardmode.

To enter hardmode you need to kill the wall of flesh

to kill the wall of flesh you need to dig down to hell.
