It shots 3 arrows at once, which is good for the DPS of course.
Maybe the only advantage of the Megashark or the Uzi is the higher projectile velicity, compared to the shotbow.
It depends on how you fight her. If you inflict Ichor permanently, you can use any of them.
If you do not apply Ichor, you use Uzi or the Shotbow.
Without Ichor megashark simply has too low damage to get effective DPS. It still kills well, but the other two gun/bows deal more damage.
Also Dart Pistol with Ichor darts is probably better than any of those if you manage to line your shots up. Then that gun deals like the highest DPS.
or
crossbow
tbh it dpeends if you use things like crystal bullets then obviously guns
if arrows like explosive AoE or lock on to avoid wasting too much ammo get the crossbow
Higher defense mobs require higher base damage. Without Ichor, megashark is really lackluster against mid-hardmode bosses.
The megashark(o) is too expensive on bullets and materials.
I wanted to know, if someone compared it to guns with a DPS meter and a target dummy...
It can deceive you, as mobs and bosses do not have 0 defense.
A weapon that deals more DPS on the dumme can deal less damage on enemies thant a different one.
As said.
The only real answer is: If you use Ichor permanently on an enemy, take Megashark. if you do not use Ichor, take an Uzi for Chlorophyte/Crystal bullets or the shotbow.
So I learned a new thing in Terraria: "take armor of enemies into account!" I did not thinks about this before.
My conclusion: When fighting against bosses, you should use a weapon with lower fire rate, but more base damage. Right?
A weapon with less base damage but higher DPS does well against low-armoured enemies.
A weapon with more base damage but lower DPS does not as good but still good.
And
A weapon with less base damage but higher DPS might be weaker if the enemy has a much higher defense.
While a weapon with less DPS but a higher base damage surpasses the enemy armor, dealing more damage in the end.
Well I screwed up. Megashark is weaker.
On a dummy the Shotbow deals the same DPS as the Megashark in the worst case.
Megasharks DPS on 0 defense is 214 not including modifiers or any ammo as those can be use on any weapon.
Shotbows DPS if you happen to fire 2 arrows EVERY single shot is also 214.
But that never happens, and you fire 2-4 arrows. Your DPS will range between 214 and 429 on the Dummy.
With unreal the Megashark sports a DPS of 250.
The Shotbow between 240 worst case and 480 best case. You will average out on around 330 DPS.
For example Plantera without Ichor with normal bullets:
Megashark DPS: Without anything on the Megashark it has a DPS of 60 on Plantera.
25-(36 defense/2)=7 base damage
7*(60/7 use time)= 60
Shotbow DPS without anything will range between: 112 DPS and 224 DPS.
Bonuses and ammo apllied to both will change this a little bit, but never so drastically that the Megashark outdamages it.
Now with Ichor:
Megashark DPS: Without anything on the Megashark it has a DPS of 168 on Plantera.
25-((36 defense-25)/2)=19.5 base damage
19.5*(60/7 use time)=~168
Shotbow DPS without anything will range between: 201 DPS and 402 DPS.
So unless you are insanely bad at aiming, and you miss any shot, and you HAVE to use Chlorophyte bullets or else you miss EVERYTHING, you ALWAYS use the Shotbow over the Megashark.
The Shotbow should do more damage. I'd say the only real argument for the Megashark is access to Crystal Bullets.
Assuming all shards from the crystal bullets hit AND the Showbow with Ichor arrows(since they are the best pre-Plantera, excluding the Cursed arrows as why would you use them if you have Ichor) only fires 2 arrows EVERY time, the Megashark is slightly higher DPS wise. 20 or so damage.
But the Shotbow will hit 3 arrows on avegrage, giving you higher DPS.
Also as far as I know, not all 3 shards hit from Crystal bullets, so the DPS will go down.
Even with perfect conditions for the Megashark which are practically impossible and the worst conditions for the Showbos which are also practically impossible, the Megashark just manages to out-DPS the Shotbow. But in reality the Shotbow ♥♥♥♥♥ on the Megashark.
