Confused on buying underground pylon

OK, got a setup with the merchant and nurse in a house in an underground biome, merchant is happy, but not selling the underground pylon. They are in the underground layer.

He sells piggybanks for 85 silver, and they're normally a gold, so that tells me he's happy enough to offer the 85% discount, which I believe is the cutoff to sell pylons. Only thing I can think of is he's underground, and not in caverns. I thought the underground pylon just had to be below the surface - do I actually have to be in the cavern layer to get him to sell it (and, for that matter, to use it?)

The merchant doesn't like it underground he likes it in the forest so he wont sell an underground pylon I'd recommend moving him back up top.

grab Demolitionist early if you want an underground pylon. he'll sell you one put a cat / dog in there too so you activate it with 2 npcs nearby.

Huh. Wiki says it's desert the merchant dislikes, not underground. Honestly, as he likes the nurse, my strategy has been to move he and the nurse around and use them to buy pylons - worked all the other places (except desert, anyway...)

And his price list sure seems like he's happy enough to get to 85% discount. Isn't that all I need, is for him to be happy, and he'll sell the pylon for the biome?

Well, piggybanks are normally a gold. My merchant is currently selling his for 85 silver, which is 85% of the normal price.

So, I'm at 85%. Maybe I need to be below, but I don't think so, as I remember previous pylons being 8 gold 50 silver (regularly 10 gold, so again, 85%...)

I was just guessing :) No idea why he isn't selling the pylon. You should try to get the pylon from the demolitionist, clothier or goblin, they'll sell it for sure when living in the underground.

Hmmm. I'll try this. Now my concern is I built my house in the underground, not the caverns, as i thought below the surface was the requirement. May have to move a little deeper...


edit: well, crap. Arms dealer and nurse, he's happy, but no pylon. Could have swore I purchased it in the underground last game. Must have to be in the cavern layer.

If anyone can confirm (and also, confirm if the pylon must be used in the cavern layer as well, or can be used anywhere below the surface) before I begin tunnelling a whole new cavern house for these two, I'd appreciate it...


edit2: it does appear I'm getting 80% rates from the arms dealer tho, as he's offering the minishark for 28, which is 7 off its regular price of 35, which would be a 20% discount. So I'm pretty sure happiness is not the issue. I'm thinking it's gotta be the caverns.

animals count as npcs and npcs need both room and the correct biome to sell it.
