edit 1: i was shaking tremendously..
Considering he has a Star Wrath, he is in the end game. However, I can verify that unless they are good at dodging and treat everything like a nuke the summoner wouldn't work well for them due to the fact that the summoner is a squishy.
That being said, I'd advise you to use a summon and a sentry staff: just don't change into a summoner class. For the summon take your pick between the stardust cell/dragon and for the sentry use the lunar portal because the ice queen won't wait around for the rainbow crystals to explode, especially when you're dodging/actively fighting her.
What's you'r gear and load-out (Referring to armor and accessories if you don't get it)? The frost moon is hard, but it's supposed to be at least pre-golem so it shouldn't be in the end game, let alone with a moon lord item. I'm suspecting your accessories and armor aren't good for the event, but I need a list to verify that.
You could also do this or become a ranger with an SDMG instead. Both are really good for events because of their crowd control and piercing abilities, not to mention their DPS.
Finally, since I'm bored I could help with the event along with DekuScrub. Unsure when I can, but just hit me up when you need help. I'm gonna bring my summoner ranger if you're wondering.
Even summoner or mixed melee summoner feels way stronger than pure melee.
There are always the crossover gear sets. Want to be a melee user, ranged user or magic user? Use one of the three sets the crossover update gives you. But, really, if anyone says Summoners are too "squishy" then they might not be using their Summoner characters properly. Being a Summoner means staying clear out of the way of enemy mobs and letting your minions do most of the work. That is why you use Summoner armor and accessories. You are trying to boost the damage your minions do and how many minions you can have so that their damage roughly equals the damage you could be doing if you were one of the three other classes. It is just a different style. That's all.
The thing is, we've got people now saying "You're a noob if you use armor!" whenever players opt for Solar Flare armor, to such an extent that we are stigmatizing the armor that melee characters need for that playstyle. Melee armor was designed to take a lot of damage and if we take that away then getting up close to mobs becomes inviable. If a melee character takes too much damage while being a melee character with the armor on then there is probably a balancing problem, but we shouldn't be condemning Solar Flare armor if it does its job. If you are a melee character and you could benefit from Solar Flare armor, then FFS by all means, use it.
