I needed close to 50 pirate invasions just to get Pirate staff. Got presumably as/much rarer coins and rings and creditcards 2..3 times each before that. Doing all my blood moons in ocean biome just to spam enough enemies to drop enough maps. Some serious grind there trying "just one more time". Crazy random. And it isn't even that great of a summon ;/
gl
P.S. sonar potion
Every time you fish you roll a 1000-sided dice with every drop having a specific numbers of sides. You can figh 1.000.000 times and simply not getting those few sides you want, and get one same, much more rare side, every time.
Unlikely, but can happen.
Everything can happen.
Question: Why do you want the sword anyway? Any stronger beam sword with Ichor buff is... stronger. And easier to get.
Edit: Crystal Serpent is nice though. Imo more worth the trouble than for the Bladetongue.
It's not a guaranteed 2/100. It's more like 2/100 in ~96% cases. Something like that with the normal distribution iirc. Which means you can have much worse results and there is nothing wrong with the math. Just a bad luck. But only with fishes this time. There is no general good/bad luck as far as science goes ;/
gnome boost luck :D
I actually wrote a negative review because after defeating ridiculous easy Wall of flesh within like 10% of the underworld in my first ever Terraria game I landed in hardmode where 2..3 days later I got Skeletron prime and Blood moon at once just because game suggested I should go crash some altars. Worst of the mechanical bosses imo with horde event on top. Or was it werewolves night? Anyway. Then a while later I randomly fished Toxikarp and simply out of curiosity even though nothing suggested it tried it against another prime. Had a few heads from pirates by that point. And the fight went almost as ridiculous easy even though I have tried a few mythical staffs by that point which were basically all useless. So I deleted the review in the end.
This game is not bad per se. It's rather silly I guess. Dumb - sort of.
but dstroyer and skelprime are EZPZ with hallow armor...
though...
i beated them on journey, so my opinion doesnt count.
