Crimson or corruption?

I like to spec as a mage and I usually play on corruption worlds out of personal preference. However what am I missing out as a mage in the crimson?

Crimson Rod is pretty great. Its a pre-hardmode Nimbus Rod. The brain of confusion got a rework too. But other than that mage wise you're not missing much.

I was thinking about Drunk World seed which has both.
But yea Dryad sells opposite evil seeds when in hardmode and in Graveyard.

So you can obtain almost everything in one world without leaving except maybe Cloning Vat / Decay Chamber and Biome Chest exclusives.

You're asking alot of this community :P

You will not get around both.
Both have good items for any class.
Crimson Rod, Brain of Confusion, Ichor-related items, Life Drain, Dart pistol, Bladetongue and Vampire Knives for Crimson.
Worm Scarf, Vilethorn, Putrid Scent and Scourge of Corruption for Corruption.
You will need items from both, but as a mage I would suggest Corruption, simply because of the Putrid Scent.
Life Drain is nice, you can get the Hallowed Mimic weapon to attack through walls more reliably.

If the dryad is in a graveyard biome, she will sell seeds of the oppisite world evil. so u can get both.

i'd say if you're going exclusively mage then go for crimson, it has more useful options than corruption

As people are pointing out, you can use the dryad and opposing seeds to do both biomes. This means the choice, really only comes down to a handful of items.

The choice pre hard mode, between shadow or crimson gear, due to tissue vs shadowscale due to brain vs eater. Not really a choice to agonize over.

The dungeon specific chest choice, of Vampire Knives or Scourge of Corruptor, from either crimson or corruption chest. This is the most telling difference.

The specific trophies or items dropped by Eater or Brain.

Pretty much everything else can be obtained, regardless of world choice thru creation of the other biome, by buying seed from dryad.

Golden shower vs Cursed Flames, is not a choice. You can create underground crimson for ichors, and underground corruption for clingers after making needed biome.

Shadow orb items or crimson heart items, is negated from fishing up proper crate after making biome.

Even the special mimics, are not completely out of question, thou you can't use a key of night, which makes the process much much slower. You are entirely reliant on the luck of getting other special mimic type, thru naturally finding one in a created biome, and that could take forever.

He is a mage. He benefits more from the Scent.

I just realized, I need to scratch that list down even more.

Since the items to create the item to summon either boss, only needs the proper biome to harvest the ingredients, and the proper biome to summon, you can now in fact summon the Brain or Eater in a world originally created with the other type.

So take off the boss specific items and tissue/scale crafted items. The choice in world almost entirely comes down to Vampire Knives vs Scourge of Corruptor, as far as access to item or ingredients.

It just may take a lot more work and time investment for specific items or ingredients.
