The king slime still works for keys?

i have been trying to obtain the desert biome key for about 4 hours now, and i am a little fed up with killing everything in the deset underground, so i wanted to know if the king slime trick for the keys still works, i tried with 11 but nothing so i guess it has been patched but in any case if anyone knows...

Any creature that drops coins can also drop a key, so yes it works.

it does but you get more mileage out of just having a summoner with minions that bypass blocks and just farm them in the underground desert. Add some water candles and battle potions maybe a solar eclipse or blood moon and you should get it in not time. If you're really a lazy ass like me dig a large hole, get some conveyor belts in the bottom, and have the loot brought to your feet.

double/bonus if you hallow-fy / crimson or corrupt-ify the desert to farm for souls of light/night along with the desert key

These days I just casually killed a random mob in the desert and it dropped the key right away. The summon staff you get for what I tested is too weak, you can only have one tiger at a time and the damage isn't that great for late bosses.

The Tiger grows in strength and speed the more you summon him.
So higher the summon capacity = more powerful Tiger.

This summon is very similar to the Stardust Dragon in that regard.

Really? I didn't noticed lol. I keept spamming the staff if more summons would spawn but I didnt noticed anything about the tiger.

Yea it gets stronger the more you summon it and if you have high enough summon capacity you can notice it changes its appearance too from baby tiger to adult tiger to armored tiger the more you summon it.

With like 10~ sumons its a big armored tiger.

King slime has recently had some reworkings, such as the minions he spawns will not drop souls, im pretty sure this extends into any rare biome drop too, such as yoyos, keys, ect. I would advise whenever an event pops up to do it anywhere but your base, or to construct the one you need. This way, any event mob u kill at your base has a chance of dropping a key.

I'm not sure if that's correct, and whilst I can't deny it outright, I just did a test in an underground Hallow biome. 9 King Slimes later and I have myself a Hallow Biome Key. Now in support of your theory, only King Slime drops Souls whilst his blue slimes don't - even though they do drop coins which is the priority factor in whether a monster can drop a Biome Key - so technically the Key could have dropped from him. I'm still not sure either way if I got incredibly lucky or if the Key did infact drop from one of his blue slimes. The jury is out.

I didn't know for sure about keys, because the're super rare and im too lazy to test it, but I know they reworked kingslime so him and his minions do not drop souls.

i killed 40 king slimes (and around 1000 normal slimes from him) in the surface desert and have not gotten a single biome key from him.
